The world is never short of good deeds to be done and there is never a time that is too late or too early to be good, Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) believes Aesop’s words that says “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted’’. Therefore, we faithfully work in saving lives, giving succour to indigent patients and help to make the hope of living a beautiful reality.
Prison medical intervention is one of Health Emergency Initiative’s projects and in the pursuit of fulfilling purpose, HEI helped to save a Kirikiri prison inmate’s life that was diagnosed of Hepatitis B at Ajeromi General Hospital. Generally, there are Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E caused by viruses. Hepatitis B is caused by contact with infected blood & fluids (sweats, spit etc), unsafe blood transfusion, unsafe sexual practices, using of infected needles, razors etc. and improper sterilization of medical equipment.
Symptoms of Hepatitis B include abdominal pain, dark urine, fever, joint pains, and loss of appetite, weakness and yellowing of the skin. These symptoms start to show within 3-4 months of the infection. Chronic Hepatitis B infection increases the risk of liver cancer although it is a vaccine-preventable disease.
To prevent contacting Hepatitis B, you should wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after any potential exposure to blood, use condoms with sexual partners, avoid direct contact with blood and bodily fluids, clean up blood spills with a fresh diluted bleach solution, cover all cuts carefully, avoid sharing sharp items such as razors, nail clippers, toothbrushes, and earrings or body rings, discard sanitary napkins into plastic bags, avoid illegal street drugs (injecting, inhaling, snorting, or popping pills) and make sure new, sterile needles are used for ear or body piercing, tattoos, and acupuncture
Health Emergency Initiative believes proclaims and works that NONE SHOULD DIE, responding swiftly to save lives, giving succour to indigent patients and EMERGING in emergencies such as road accidents etc in order to save lives and their beautiful dreams. You are welcome to EMERGE with us either via donation or volunteer and remember no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
