What is HEI?

HEI is an acronym that stands for Health Emergency Initiative which is a Non-Governmental organization registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Since its establishment in October 2015, HEI has been aiding indigent and vulnerable patients in the hospital who are unable to afford basic medical care.

What does HEI do?

HEI stands in the gap for the poorest segment of Nigerian society, enabling them to obtain life-saving medical care in public hospitals.

It also provides succor to victims of road accidents and other emergencies. In the short time of its existence since 2015, intervened to save the lives of over 250 patients and critically injured accident victims in different hospitals in Lagos and its environs.

HEI works closely with public hospitals, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), and other stakeholders.

Is this not a duplication of the welfare programmes in churches?

Rather than duplication, it complements and expands what they do. We are willing to partner with churches to reach more people and make more impact.

HEI seeks to focus on the poorest of the poor especially in public hospitals to reduce moralities among them.

When does HEI meet or gather together for its programmes/Activities?

HEI General Meeting holds every quarter. Other meetings include the Annual General Meeting, Board of Trustees Meeting, Exco meeting and Committee meetings.

HEI also has planning meetings when there are projects or outreaches such as awareness to hospitals.

How is HEI funded?

HEI is funded solely by the generosity of members who make periodic, quarterly and monthly contributions to HEI. HEI also receive donations from corporate organizations and the public.

How are the funds properly managed?

Funds go through several layers of approval without creating unnecessary bottlenecks that could hinder rendering emergency assistance to patients. HEI also ensures that receipts are issued for every cost covered by the organization to ensure proper documentation. We place emphasis on accountability and transparency. Audited accounts are available upon request.

Does HEI support individuals seeking financial help?

Our process has always been to work with social health workers in public hospitals, verify the case, pay directly to the hospitals and see to the discharge of the beneficiary.

Does HEI medical intervention cover surgeries or chronic illnesses?

No it does not, HEI Intervene in cases of less than N30,000.
