The role of empowerment in combating the high rate of accident-related deaths in Nigeria cannot be overstated. Thousands of lives are lost unnecessarily to road accidents, fire outbreaks, building collapse, and health crises as a result of sheer ignorance.

To ameliorate these recurrent fatalities, the government, cooperate organizations, and some individuals have established philanthropic schemes targeted at the welfare of the accident victims. Many have lost their lives because the bystanders at the accident scene do not have the skills required to save the victims.

To create a sustainable solution to this menace, there is need to empower and license able-bodied community workers, stakeholders, youths and security officials as first responders who will offer prompt medical intervention, in cases of emergency, in their respective communities.
