A couple of months ago, a 6-year-old girl, diagnosed with Malaria and Meningitis at Massey Street Children Hospital, struggled between life and death without any hope of being treated because of her parents’ financial challenge. The parents who had combed all the neighborhood, in search of funds, but to no avail, sat wearied beside the gate outside the hospital building, weeping over their daughter’s deteriorating health. Their forlorn faces, however, were lit up when HEI came on board: within a few minutes, we paid their hospital bills and the girl was moved to the ward and attended to. The peak of their joy is that their child is now back on her feet, hale, and hearty.
When we see the hope our medical interventions bring to people’s lives, we get more enthusiastic to do more.
