A building located at 63, Massey Street, Off Itafaji Lagos collapsed yesterday.
The building housed a school which occupied the second floor and other residents on other floors. The pupils of the school were getting into the day’s activities proper and scores of residents were home when the building collapsed.
The rescue team and residents descended on the scene and rescued many upon arrival, but some remain trapped and witnesses have given early death rate at eight to nine.
Today, we spoke to one of the rescued victims, a teacher at OHEN Nursery and Primary who is currently receiving treatment at Onikan Health Center. The victim confirmed that 50 pupils and 5 teachers were present at the school.
As of Wednesday evening, more than 24 victims mostly children, had been rescued. The rescue team is still at the scene of the incident while the emergency team is doing their best to stabilize the victims for proper treatments.
The government is currently in control of this situation but we urge Lagosians to please donate blood to the Blood Bank at general hospital Lagos Island to sustain and treat victims from the incidents and also allow the rescue team do their jobs without impediments from onlookers.
